What challenge do we identify?
The specific location of three large sports and entertainment venues hosting mass events creates unique challenges. These have been analyzed for years by the MAKiS team and continue to require new, innovative practices – especially in situations when several major events take place at the same time. The residency aims to develop and test solutions that will improve both the actual and perceived safety of event participants.
Why involve performing artists?
Performing artists work with public and performance spaces, which makes them particularly attentive to how people behave within a space and how different groups interact. They can identify areas that require reflection, and their experience in creating intuitive forms of communication – combined with imagination and experimentation – allows them to bring a fresh perspective to the design of extraordinary situations filled with emotion and strong social engagement.
