What Challenge Are We Addressing?
The specific spatial situation in which these sites are located has long been the subject of analysis and practical implementations. The residency aims to find new solutions or further develop existing practices that improve the safety and sense of security of event participants—especially in situations where several large events take place at the same time.
Why Are We Involving Performance Artists?
Artists are particularly sensitive to people’s behavior in space, social relations, and the needs of diverse groups. Thanks to this sensitivity, they can identify areas that require reflection but may have previously gone unnoticed. Their strong competence in creating intuitive forms of communication—combined with their practice of operating within abstraction—brings a unique perspective to observing and improving the organization of unusual, emotionally charged, and community-engaging situations.
Residency Conditions:
● Number of participants: a group of 3–5 artists selected through an open call.
● Duration: 30 working days between November 17 and December 14, 2025.
● Fee: PLN 6,000 net per resident.
● Accommodation provided and travel expenses covered up to the amount specified in the regulations.
● Additional support: Artists will have access to rehearsal and movement exploration spaces, workshops on design and business planning, as well as mentoring support from experts in various fields.
● Presentation of works: Projects developed during the residency will be presented at a public final event.
Full details on how to apply—including the regulations and application form—will soon be available at perebel.uni.lodz.pl.

About the Project
The project develops a method called PEREBEL, which combines a performative approach with revolutionary thinking to create innovative tools for addressing contemporary civilizational challenges.
As part of the third residency, titled “Crisis of Safety”, artists—working in collaboration with a team of experts, researchers, and partner representatives—will be tasked with developing solutions to improve organizational processes. The proposals created during the residency will be dedicated to a specific location but may also have potential for implementation in other contexts and situations.
Organizers: the University of Łódź Foundation, the University of Łódź, the Academic Center of Artistic Initiatives in Łódź, the Municipal Arena of Culture and Sport, and the Newer Theatre Foundation.
The project is co-financed from the state budget, granted by the Minister of Education and Science under the program “Science for Society II.”
